大型で白黒の南極地方に生息する海鳥で、飛べないけれど翼を使って泳ぐ・・・ということで、正解英単語は penguin 【ペンギン】でした。

下記の英文は NHKのラジオ英語講座『攻略！英語リスニング』2015年2月号よりの抜粋。ちょっと長いけれど豆知識が散りばめられています。

I know why penguins are black and white. Camouflage! It's really hard to see them in the water because of those colors. It's called countershading, and they do this thing called porpoising, where they do little jumps out of the water. When they do this, bubbles get into their feathers and that means they can swim even faster!
「なんでペンギンが白黒なのかも知ってるよ。 擬態のためだよね！ ああいう色をしているから、水の中で見つけるのがすっごく難しいんだ。 カウンターシェイディングって呼ばれてて、あとね、海面ジャンプっていうのもやるんだけど、水面からちょっとだけ飛び上がるんだよ。そうすると、空気の泡が羽毛の間に入り込んで、さらに速く泳げるの！」

ペンギンの中で最も大きい種類である「皇帝ペンギン」は、直訳でＯＫな emperor penguin 。 特徴のある髪型（頭の飾り羽根）が人気の「イワトビペンギン」は rockhopper penguin 。hop はぴょんぴょん跳ぶ英単語なので、こちらもそのままですね。
ちなみに、漢字では「人鳥（企鵝、片吟）」と書くそうです。
